the challenge

Join endurance bibliophiles from around the world in reading Infinite Jest (1,000+pages) over the summer of 2009, June 21st to September 22nd. A thousand pages1 ÷ 92 days = 75 pages a week. No sweat.

1. Plus endnotesa.
a. A lot of them.

So… I’m buying my copy today. Happy Summer Reading.

*****************************************************************************

This is a juggernaut of a novel. I started it, annotations and all, then promptly returned it to its owner in May. I actually regret returning it before finishing it. I don’t think I’ll ever be inclined to buy it outright on my own despite the fact that what I managed to read was extremely engaging.

People are strange.

I’m no exception to this fact.

I’ve had a weird, emotional day for some reason. I feel more lonely and resolved in my solitude than lately. I don’t want to be trite and say it’s because I miss the Ol’ Block, but that’s definitely part of it.

Dreams, Whit, silence, this entire week; I’m sure these are all factors. I had to give a chronological update to David last night at Maggiano’s. I think that’s left me feeling more vexed than anything. I don’t think anyone like recounting 10 years of, well, life.

I was trying to sort through the thoughts earlier today. Then I tried to distract myself from them altogether. Now I’m just marinading in them. I should go for another walk.
